Day 5 - Attachment to the Opinions of Others
Begin with prayer -
"God, I believe
that You are searching for me and I open my heart to You today. Please
clear away the things that are blocking the door to my heart."
Meditation -
An
attachment to honor can be an inordinate concern about the opinions of
others. Biologically, we are social creatures and specific regions of
our brain are dedicated to noticing and interpreting social feedback. It is often helpful to have
this feedback and certainly isn't a bad thing in itself. However, it is a serious issue when the opinions of others matter more to us than living
in relationship with God. Or when we often experience worry and
stress over what others might think of us. In what ways does your
attachment to the opinions of others clutter your heart and prevent God
from more fully dwelling within you? Draw these attachments out of your
heart and offer them, one by one, to God. Ask for His healing, healing
from the lies about yourself that you have heard from others and healing
from the judgements that others have made about you. Ask for freedom
from these lies and from the attachment to the opinions of others.
Gratitude -
Now
or in the evening, pause and reflect on one specific thing you are
grateful for today, and give thanks to God for this and all the gifts in
your life.
